RAINSMOREwhich stands for Raincell and Other Innovations, Satellites and Opportunistic Measurements from Telecommunication Networks, for Estimating and Spatialising Precipitation, is an International Research Network (IRN) funded by the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD). The aim of RAINSMORE is to bring together experts in data science and hydrometeorological sciences to innovate together to improve the measurement and analysis of precipitation through the exploitation of opportunistic weather-sensitive data. RAINSMORE operates through periodic seminars and annual workshops that enable its members to meet and review progress on their various research projects and new processing techniques. .
Senior Researcher/Research Director, Research Institute for Development, IRD, France. For the past 15 years, Dr Marielle Gosset has focused her research on precipitation remote sensing by satellite and ground-based radar and its applications to hydrology. Her main interests are understanding precipitation variability and its impact on hydrological processes and the water balance.
He specialised in satellites at NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) (Washington, United States, 1996-1997) and obtained his Master's degree in Tropical Marine Sciences (specialising in remote sensing techniques) at LABOMAR-UFC in 2005. He obtained his PhD from the Department of Earth Physics and Thermodynamics at the University of Valencia (UV), Spain, in 2012.
He is currently an associate professor at DETI, a permanent member of the Postgraduate Programme in Telecommunications Engineering (PPGETI) and a researcher at GTEL, where he conducts research related to 5th and 6th generation wireless communication systems.
Rômulo A. Juca Oliveira is currently a researcher at the Research Institute for Development (IRD) in Toulouse, France, specialising in remote sensing of precipitation and hydrological applications of rainfall products.
Modeste Kacou is a researcher at the Laboratory of Materials Science, Environment and Solar Energy (LASMES) at Félix Houphouët-Boigny University in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. He is co-promoter of GDRI RAINSMORE and coordinates RainCell's various activities in Africa.
Rafael Reis is currently a researcher at the Cearense Foundation for Meteorology and Water Resources (Funceme) and a PhD student in Water Resources at the Federal University of Ceará and Remote Sensing at the University of Toulouse III/SDU2E. He has conducted research on the planning and management of hydrological systems in the Northeast, and has extensive experience in field missions and project coordination aimed at monitoring water quality and quantity in reservoirs.
Rodrigo Zambrana is a PhD student at the University of French Guiana and WeatherForce (a French weather monitoring company). An electronic engineer specialising in signal and image processing and data science, he is working on a PhD in Earth sciences.
In 2023, he became a professor in the Department of Teleinformatics Engineering (DETI) at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC, Brazil). At UFC, he collaborates with the Research Institute for Development (IRD, France) on research involving machine learning and meteorology.
